SOAP BOX RALLY
The City of Sanford Parks and Recreation Department and Central Florida Soap Box Derby will be hosting its annual Marine Corps Reserve TOYS-FOR-TOTS Rally on Saturday, November 2, at Mike Kirby Park.
Check in for the Marine Toys for Tots Program race will be at 7 a.m., with racing beginning at 8 a.m., consisting of a Double Elimination race for each class in the morning, followed by a lunch break and a Single Elimination race for each class in the afternoon.
There is also a good possibility that there will celebrity races featuring either Marine representatives, City of Sanford elected officials or a parent runoff.
The entry fee is a $55 value or more per racer in NEW TOYS. Pre-Register and bring toys on race day. The final day to enter is Tuesday, October 29.
Soap Box Derby racing is open to children ages 7 to 20 _ Stock, 7-to-13; Super Stock, 9-to-18; Masters, 10-to-20 _ with a limited number of loaner cars available for new participants.
Everyone, especially interested non-racers, is invited to attend any of the family friendly events, free of charge, at beautiful Mike Kirby Park located on the west side of Sanford on Oregon Avenue, north off of CR-46A (25th Street/H. E. Thomas Parkway) or east off of Rinehart Road, just south of the GreeneWay entry. The track is East of Bentley Elementary School.

The Hatters (2-4, 0-2) will return to action today (Saturday) when they host Presbyterian for Homecoming with a kickoff set for 1 p.m. at Spec Martin Stadium.

The Stetson volleyball team (3-17, 0-9) is in Tennessee for matches this weekend against Austin Peay in Clarksville at the Winfield Dunn Center on Friday and Lipscomb today (Saturday) at 2 p.m. in Nashville at Allen Arena.

UCF BASKETBALL
The UCF men and women’s basketball teams will play final full dress rehearsals on Tuesday, the women hosting Edward Waters College from Jacksonville at Addition Financial Arena at 7 p.m. and the men traveling to Athens, Georgia, to challenge the University of Georgia at Stegeman Coliseum starting at 7 p.m. for exhibition contests.
The women will enter the 2024-25 season with the returning Big 12 leading scorer, Kaitlin Peterson, and four returners. The Knights welcomed nine newcomers over the offseason. Of the nine, four are transfers and five will be true freshmen.
The men return All-Big 12 guards Darius Johnson and leading-scorer Jaylin Sellers and 11 newcomers, including 7-foot-2 freshman Moustapha Thiam, who was the No. 1 ranked center in the country in the Class of 2025 before deciding to reclassify to 2024 and join the Knights this year.

UCF WOMEN’S SOCCER
The UCF women’s soccer team (3-6-5, 1-5-3) hosted Cincinnati in the regular-season finale on Friday at the UCF Soccer Complex. A Knights victory would earn the final spot in the 2024 Sprouts Farmers Big 12 Championship that will be contested October 30 to November 9 at CPC Stadium in Kansas City. The top 12 teams in the Big 12 standings will qualify for the conference tournament.
UCF VOLLEYBALL
The UCF (8-8, 1-6) continued a homestead in Orlando with a Friday matchup against Houston and will host Cincinnati on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at The Venue.
ORLANDO PRIDE
The Orlando Pride (17-2-6, 57 points) are in an international break before hosting the last match of the regular season at Inter&Co Stadium against the Seattle Reign on Saturday, November 2. Kick off for that match is set for 5 p.m. and will be broadcast nationally on ION.
