Special to the Herald
State Representative Rachel Plakon proudly presented a Tribute Proclamation to Christina Hollerbach on behalf of the Hollerbach family Wednesday, recognizing their dedicated efforts in creating a dementia-friendly dining experience for families in Seminole County.
The presentation took place at Hollerbach's German Restaurant in Sanford, an area Representative Plakon represents. She shared her personal connection to the cause, revealing her father's struggle with late-stage Alzheimer's disease.
"As someone who has witnessed the challenges of caring for a loved one with dementia, I understand the significance of creating environments where families can enjoy quality time together, free from
stigma and discomfort. Today, I honor the Hollerbach family for their exceptional work in fostering compassion in our community," said Representative Plakon.
Also in attendance were Dennis Dulniak, Founder of Dementia-Friendly Dining of Central Florida and advocate Toni Gitles, also with the organization.
The dementia-friendly dining experience includes specially designed placemats, trained staff to assist families, and a welcoming atmosphere that prioritizes comfort and familiarity.
The Tribute serves as an important reminder of the power of community initiatives in addressing the needs of vulnerable populations. As more families face the realities of dementia, the Hollerbach family remains committed to leading the way in fostering understanding and compassion within Seminole County.
Hollerbach's German Restaurant currently offers the dementia-friendly dining option on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3-5 pm.
