SANFORD — Even inclement weather can only slow down members of the Lake Monroe Sailing Association (LMSA) so much.

After dealing with debris from two Hurricanes and flooding, the local sailing group was able to get in three events over the past two weeks.

First up was the Second Annual LMSA Golf Tournament on Saturday, October 26, at Mayfair Country Club.

Despite the difficulties, six teams, double the entries from 2023, made for an exciting day of action under amazingly beautiful weather and it was the duo of Kyle White and Kevin Peters recording a round of 70 to win the trophy over the team’s of runner-ups Kim White and Renee Nordquist and third place Jamie & Ashley.

Then on Wednesday, October 30, even though most of Seminole Boulevard and the public boat ramps were closed by flooding, the club was able to contest its final Goslings Rum Race for 2024 with five vessels taking to Lake Monroe.

Andy Forrest was able to direct Show Me through the high and rough water to finish first overall and in Displacement Boat by 36-seconds over Scott Baumer and crew on Second Wind and 2:16 over Bob Fellingham on Shajaira with its new main sail.

While the water was still fairly high, the City of Sanford was able to open the Public Boat Ramps over this past weekend and the LMSA took advantage to run a make-up race from the cancelled October Sine Metu Jameson Irish Whiskey Race on Sunday (November 3) for a perfect evening of sailing! Beautiful weather and fun time had by all at The Sullivan Public House following the event.

It was a big evening for the Multihull Boat class as Terry Warren on his unmanned boat topping James Pompi on Zx for top honors. Jim White on Bad JuJu was third overall and first in Planing Boat. The top finishing Displacement Boat was Bill Holstein on Black Jack Bill in fourth place.

   Here are the results:
