Story Time at DeBary Hall 

Friday, Nov. 15, 9:30 a.m., DeBary Hall, 198 Sunrise Blvd., DeBary. Children are invited to Kids Corner, a free story time featuring stories, songs & activities. The program is designed for preschoolers, but children of all ages are welcome. Call 386-668-3840.

 

Historic Marker 

Dedication Ceremonies

Friday, Nov. 15, 3:30 p.m., Sanford Museum, 520 E. First Street, Sanford. Presented by the Sallie Harrison Chapter, NSDAR. Their first ceremony will rededicate the chapter’s newly refurbished 1938 Fort Mellon Park marker. The second ceremony will celebrate and dedicate the chapter’s brand new historic marker. This marker tells the story of Adam Shadrach, a Black veteran of the Civil War who settled in Sanford after the war. It also explains the history of the cannon named “Beelzebub,” which Shadrach was in charge of firing off during Sanford’s community celebrations. RSVP & questions to [email protected]

Guided Bicycle Tour of Green Springs Park 

Friday, Nov. 22, 9 a.m.,  DeBary Hall, 198 Sunrise Blvd., DeBary. Join DeBary Hall historians Tracy Mestre and Lisa Perez along with Environmental Specialist Holly Giles for a 15-mile bike ride from Green Springs to Guise Road. The tour begins with the history of Green Springs, the native plants of the area, and how the springs are affected by our water quality. There will be stops along the way with one restroom break at the Osteen Civic Center. Come for the whole tour or as far as you want to ride. Children and teens ages 12 and up are welcome if accompanied by an adult. All participants should bring a helmet and water. Sunscreen is recommended. Reservations required; call 386-668-3840.

 

St. Luke’s Concert

Friday, Nov. 22, 7 p.m., The St. Luke's Concert series welcomes the UCF Symphony Orchestra and their event “Music for Friends” featuring Mozart's clarinet concerto and Elgar's "Enigma." Seminole Audubon  Meeting 

Sunday, Nov. 10, 2 p.m., IFAS Extension Education Building, 250 W. County Home Road, Sanford. Monthly meeting of the Seminole Audubon Society with Shawnlei Breeding, Audubon EagleWatch Program Manager, sharing her extensive knowledge of Eagles, a species that has come back from near extinction. She will provide fun facts about Eagles and their life cycle in Florida. Shawnlei trains volunteers to monitor Bald Eagle nests in Florida.
