Within the regular meeting agenda, the Sanford City Commissioners discussed how the Citizens Academy Class 21 sets the bar for its local community through its formational purpose to help citizens learn about Sanford community development firsthand. Additionally, the commissioners ask that locals come out to support small businesses since, in the words of the mayor, the funds given to small businesses will go directly towards supporting the local community. The committee gave out certificates to these small business owners before proceeding with the consent agenda items.
Among the approved consent agendas were a $288,000 contract with Rudram Engineering for staff development and coding positions for the Digital Transformation Project, a $287,000 purchase of a PB Loader BC-4 Patcher for patching potholes (will replace a 15 year-old unit that requires a generator and electrical system replacement), a $108,000 contract for maintenance and solids removal from the Storage Nitrification Denitrification Reactor at the north sewage treatment plant, a $20,000 contract with A Budget Tree Service for tree trimming along a utility easement in Academy Manor to allow stormwater maintenance, a $216,000 purchase of three Ford F-250 pickup trucks and one Ford F-150 pickup truck to replace a 16 to 19-year-old trucks in the Streets Division and Facilities Divisions, and a $1500 sponsorship of the Love Your Shorts film festival.
The public hearings included and approved the annexation, change in Future Land Use, and rezoning of 4.9 acres at 2340 Celery Avenue to development of a 16 residential subdivision consisting of eight duplex units as well as the re-establishment of an expired Planned Development zoning for 10 Acres at 100 Crosswind Loop (SR 46 east of Monroe Road).
