All good things must come to an end.

The Lake Mary High School girls team entered the FHSAA Class 3A State Golf Championship at Mission Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills as the 3-time defending State Champions.

The Rams shot a 310 and found themselves in third place after the first round on Tuesday, trailing Lake Nona (304) by six strokes and Beachside (308) by another two strokes.

Lake Mary, under veteran head coach Dennis Burchill, gave it a good run in the second round on Wednesday, posting a 300, to move into second place, but Lake Nona refused to wilt and shot an amazing 296 to finish at 600, 10 strokes better than the Rams (610).

Individually, Lake Mary’s Mara King shot a 70 on Tuesday to be the leader in the Clubhouse, but the senior faded to a 73 in the second round and finished in fifth place. Rams teammate Ryleigh Knaub, also a senior, finished eighth with a 76-68 _ 144 and Lake Brantley’s (a non-team individual qualifier) was 12th after shooting a 76-71 _ 147.

The Lake Mary High boys was tied for 10th after day one after shooting a 323, but got hot on Wednesday and lowered their score by 11 strokes (312) to finish at 635 and moved up to eighth.
