Special to the Herald
Members of the Seminole County Retired Educators attending the November 12 meeting embraced a full agenda. They were invited by school board member, Autumn Garrick, to volunteer with her at Pine Crest Elementary School doing the RAP program (reading), they received a list of holiday activities for the surrounding area (including their own holiday party December 10), voted on a scholarship fund, received AMBA information, new symposium information, and were reminded of upcoming projects; ALL of this plus a bit more in addition to hosting the Superintendent of Seminole County Schools, Serita Beamon!
Mrs. Beamon presented an informative session entitled, “Seminole County Public Schools Update”. Attendees heard the numerous accolades SCPS has recently received, including the very latest, the 2025 NICHE Best Schools Award that named Seminole the Best School District in Florida (#1 of 67) which includes both the academics and the arts. In addition, NICHE named Seminole County Most Diverse School District in Florida (#1 of 67), and (#3 of 66) for Best School Districts for Athletes in Florida. It was also noted that Seminole County is 1 of 10 High Performing districts of the 67 districts in the state. Afterwards, an active Q & A session ensued.
