SANFORD ADULT SOFTBALL
Here is this week’s schedule in the City of Sanford Parks and Recreation Department Adult Softball Fall Season.
The Semi-Co-Ed/Fun League on Wednesday has Fusion challenging Throwbacks at 6:30 p.m.; Pat’s Liquor taking on The West End Trading Company at 7:30 p.m.; and Fed Up facing Throwbacks at 8:30 p.m. Badgers has the week off.
Everyone is invited to watch the games for free at Pinehurst Park on West 24th Street.

STETSON WOMEN
The Stetson Hatters (4-3) bounced back in the Daytona Beach Classic with a strong 84-76 victory over the Utah State Aggies (1-7) at the Ocean Center.
Cameron Thomas led the charge with a game-high 21 points, marking her third 20-point performance of the season. Six Hatters scored in double figures, showcasing a balanced offensive attack. Mary McMillan added 17 points and dished out six assists, while Tiasia McMillan contributed 12 points, seven rebounds, and a game-high four blocks.
Stetson had suffered a 79-43 defeat to the Bowling Green Falcons in the opening game of the Daytona Beach Classic on Friday, November 29, at the Ocean Center.
Graduate forward Quentarra Mitchell led the Hatters in scoring with 10 points, the only Stetson player to reach double figures. McMillan contributed nine points and seven rebounds, while Thomas, the ASUN Newcomer of the Week following her performance in Stetson's win over Florida Atlantic, added seven points and eight rebounds. Thomas' scoring streak of five consecutive double-digit games came to an end in the loss.

Stetson will hit the road for New Rochelle, New York, to face the Iona Gaels on Thursday at 6 p.m. and then head down to Annapolis, Maryland, to take on the U.S. Naval Academy on Saturday at noon. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.

* Sunday, January 12 _ Due to Hurricane Milton the Ladies on the Lake Regatta has been reschedule for Sunday, January 12, 2025. Enjoy a weekend of sailing at Lake Monroe Sailing Association located in Historical Downtown Sanford. The Regatta is a different format this year to encourage all women to come out and steer a boat! Anyone can crew, but ONLY ladies can drive! The course will be the same format as Wednesday Night Races with race committee starting and finishing the fleet. The course and all marks to be used will be decided and discussed during the skipper’s meeting the day of racing. Dinner, Awards and a 50/50 Raffle will be held after the Race at the LMSA Club House with all proceeds going to Harvest Time International LLC in Sanford. UCF WOMEN
The UCF women’s basketball team (6-2) had a busy Thanksgiving week, defeating SIUE (Southern Illinois), 81-71, and FAMU, 80-55, at Addition Financial Arena before hitting the road for the first time this season for a pair of games at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Knights had shooting woes in both games, falling to UNLV, 71-52, and Montana State, 76-68.

After a week off, UCF will head back out on the road to Houston, Texas, to challenge Texas State at H&PE Arena on Saturday at 2 p.m.
STETSON MEN
The Stetson men's basketball team (1-6) was in Tampa on Tuesday to take on the University of South Florida and will return to the Insight Credit Union Arena at Edmunds Center in DeLand on Saturday to host Mercer at 3 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
UCF VOLLEYBALL
The UCF women’s volleyball team fell in three sets, 3-0 (25-19, 25-16 and 25-21), to No. 8 Arizona State (29-2, 17-1) in its final contest of 2024 on Friday (Nov. 29) in the Desert Financial Arena.
The Knights (9-18, 2-15 Big 12) tallied 35 kills and seven blocks while the Sun Devils (29-2, 17-1) recorded 39 kills and four blocks.
Emily Wilson led the Knights in kills totalling 14, followed by Alexia Kuehl with eight. Abby Schomers led the charge in digs recording nine on the day.
SOAP BOX DERBY
One of the most popular events on the CFSBD calendar, especially with out of state competitors, is coming to Mike Kirby Park to close out 2024 when The City of Sanford Parks and Recreation Department and Central Florida Soap Box Derby hosts the 2-Day Holiday Rally on Saturday, December 28, and Sunday, December 29.
The entry fee, if registration and fee is received before Saturday, December 7, is $90 for one entry and $165 for two-or-more siblings for both days.
After December 7, is $115 for one entry or $200 total for a family of two or more drivers.
The final day to enter and pay in full is Thursday, December 19. No onsite registration.
Kirby Park will be open on Friday, December 27, from 10 a.m.-to-2 p.m. for trailer drop-off.
RV’s are welcome, but you MUST make prior arrangements with the Rally Director.
Each Day, check in will be at 7 a.m., with racing beginning at 8:30 a.m., and will consist of a Double Elimination race for each class in the morning, followed by a lunch break and a Single Elimination race for each class in the afternoon.
Soap Box Derby racing is open to children ages 7 to 20 _ Stock, 7-to-13; Super Stock, 9-to-18; Masters, 10-to-20 _ with a limited number of loaner cars available for new participants.
Everyone, especially interested non-racers, is invited to attend any of the family friendly events, free of charge, at beautiful Mike Kirby Park located on the west side of Sanford on Oregon Avenue, north off of CR-46A (25th Street/H. E. Thomas Parkway) or east off of Rinehart Road, just south of the GreeneWay entry. The track is East of Bentley Elementary School.
