SANFORD BABE RUTH BASEBALL

   Registration is open for the City of Sanford Parks & Recreation Department 2025 Spring Co-Ed Youth Babe Ruth Baseball League.

   Offerings are _ Cal Ripken Division ages: T-Ball (4-6), Rookies (7-8), Minors (9-10), Majors (11-12); Babe Ruth Division ages: Juniors (13-15), Seniors (16-18).

   The SPRD is holding walk-up sign-ups on Saturday, January 11, and Saturday, January 18, from 9 a.m.-to-4 p.m. at Chase Park (1500 Celery Avenue). Registration will close January 18 or when all teams are filled.

STETSON MEN

   The Stetson men’s basketball team opened Atlantic Sun Conference play in Charlotte, North Carolina, against Queens on Thursday and is in Carrollton, Georgia, today (Saturday) to battle West Georgia at 2 p.m. at The Arena. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.

 

STETSON WOMEN

   The Stetson women’s basketball team kicked off the new year and began Atlantic Sun Conference play on Thursday, hosting the West Georgia Wolves at Insight Credit Union Arena at Edmunds Center and will remain at home today (Saturday) to host Queens at 2 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.

 

ORLANDO SPEEDWORLD

   Coming up at Orlando Speed World Dragway:

   * Today (Saturday) _ Trailer Kings. Seven hours of Test-n-Tune _ slick tire and radial tire only. $15 to watch or $75 to race. Gates open at 2 p.m. Racing from 3 p.m.-to-10 p.m. $10 General Admission.

   * Sunday _ Cars, Coffee & Drags. Car Show & Racing. Street Cars Only (no race cars, no trailers, no slicks). Gates open a 9 a.m., car show, 9:30 a.m.-to-3 p.m.; drag racing from 9:30 a.m.-to-1:30 p.m., roll racing from 1:30 p.m.-to-3 p.m. Admission is $10 for spectators or $25 to race, kids 10-and-Under are free.

   * Wheels Up Wednesday _ “All Welcome Test and Tune and Grudge Racing” with gates opening at 6 p.m. and racing from 6 p.m.-to-10:30 p.m. $20 General Admission or $30 to race.

   * Thursday _ Nike Night.

   * Full Throttle Friday _ “All Welcome Test and Tune and Grudge Racing”, plus a Quick-8 Shootout with gates opening at 6 p.m. and racing from 6 p.m.-to-10:30 p.m. $20 General Admission or $30 to race. Kids 10-and-Under free.

   * Saturday and Sunday _ JW Performance NHRA ET Track Points Race. Events include Novice Jr. Dragster (8-9 year olds), Intermediate Jr. Dragster (10-12 year olds), Pro Sportsman Jr. Dragster (13-18 year olds), Jr. Street (13-18 yer olds), Super Pro, Quick 32, Pro (No Box), Pro Motorcycle and Sportsman. Gates open at 8 a.m. and Time Trials at 10 a.m. to be followed by Eliminations. Admission is $20 (kids 10-and-Under free).

NEW SMYRNA SPEEDWAY

   Start 2025 off right...at the Races! New Smyrna Speedway returns from the holiday break today (Saturday) with 2025 RED EYE 50/50, featuring the David Rogers Super Late Models (50 Laps), Hoosier Pro Late Models (50 Laps), Sportsman (25 Laps) , Ashley Homes JAX Pro Trucks (25 Laps) & Florida Southern Ground Pounders (20 Laps)! Its a little preview of the action we will see during February's World Series and you won’t want to miss it.

   The Pit gates open at 3:30 p.m. with Division Practice from 3:30 p.m.-to-5 p.m. Early Bird $5 Discount before 6 p.m. Kids 11 & Under FREE & Kids 12-17are $5. Qualifying at 6:15 p.m. and Feature Racing at 7:30 p.m.

   The track is located at the corner of SR. 44 and CR 415, between New Smyrna, DeLand and Daytona.

SANFORD ADULT SOFTBALL

   The City of Sanford Parks and Recreation Department Adult Softball Polar Bear Season begins this week.

   The Men’s League on Tuesday has the Bokey Batters tackling The Handicaps at 6:30 p.m. and Venezolanos en Sanford battling The West End Trading Company at 7:30 p.m.

   The Semi-Co-Ed/Fun League on Wednesday has Fusion challenging Wet Spot at 6:30 p.m.; and Pat’s Liquor playing a doubleheader against The West End Trading Company at 7:30 p.m. and Throwbacks at 8:30 p.m.

   Everyone is invited to watch the games for free at Pinehurst Park on West 24th Street.

LAKE MARY FOOTBALL

   Please join us on Saturday, January 11, from 11 a.m.to-1 p.m. at Hooters of Sanford to celebrate the Lake May High School football team making the FHSAA Class 7A State Championship Game for the first time in school history! Class 7A is the Sunshine State’s highest and most competitive classification so this is a pretty big deal for the Rams. There will be food and drink specials for families and the community.

 

HULA BOWL

   The 79th annual Hula Bowl returns to Orlando as the nation's premier college football all-star game where NFL, XFL, USFL, and CFL teams will be represented by top scout players. 120 of the top senior athletes, from across the United States, Canada, Australia, and Japan, will be selected to play in the game that will be played at FBC Mortgage Stadium on the UCF campus on Saturday, January 11, at noon. The contest will be televised by the CBS Sport Network.

   * Saturday, January 11 _ LMSA Members Club Race Series. Race #1 of the 2025 Members Club Race Series, sponsored by Sanford Brewing for the Hayden Trophy. Skippers meeting at noon. More info to come.

   * Sunday, January 12 _ The rescheduled Ladies on the Lake Regatta. Enjoy a weekend of sailing at Lake Monroe Sailing Association located in Historical Downtown Sanford. The Regatta is a different format this year to encourage all women to come out and steer a boat! Anyone can crew, but ONLY ladies can drive! The course will be the same format as Wednesday Night Races with race committee starting and finishing the fleet. For planning purposes please RSVP by 1/5/2025. Registration and Check-in are open from 11:30 a.m.-to-12:30 p.m. Skippers Meeting is at 1 p.m. First Flag is at 2 p.m.

   * Saturday, January 18 _ Members After Christmas Party. 4 p.m.-to-9 p.m. at Sanford Elks Lodge, 1006 East Second Street. Members party, white elephant gift exchange, swearing in of the 2025 LMSA board of directors. More information to come....Cash or credit at the bar. Members may bring one guest, i.e. date or spouse. All other guests are $15 per person to help cover food cost.

   * Saturday, January 25 _ The Lake Monroe Mother's Arm Challenge. Come join the LMSA for this unique race through the river of grass at the east end of Lake Monroe. Sail in flat water, with the top half of your sails catching the wind over the wetlands. It’s an exciting navigational and sailing challenge! 11 a.m. skippers meeting. More information to follow.
