Peggy Jo Sprankle formerly Treland and Tharpe, 18 June 1941 – 5 December 2023

Peggy was born in Charlotte, NC on 18 June 1941 to Louise Quick and Edward Goodwin.  During her formable years, she attended catholic schools, loved playing with chickens with her grandmother on the farm in Rockingham, NC. She was an avid listener of Billy Graham preaching on the radio.  Upon turning 16 and in search of a better life, she relocated to “The Big Apple” and found a job as a Hat Check Girl in a ground floor restaurant (Long Champs) located in the Empire State Building.  She met interesting people such as the Rockefellers, Sara Churchill, and Jack Webb, to name a few.  Her life changed when she was introduced to Jakob Treland, a Norwegian (Viking) immigrant .  A year later they were married, moved to Sunset Park in Brooklyn, and the following year started their family.  The marriage endured for 4 years prior to ending.  Seeking a fresh start, she moved to Florida with Andy and Chris, her two children.  In Florida, she met Bill Tharpe, were married, and had two additional children (Suzan and Jerry).  Sanford and Stevens Point / Plainfield, Wisconsin were home for the next couple of years, until finally settling in Sanford in 1967.  She worked as a Nurse’s Aide, seamstress, and Office Manager for United Conveyor.  Regardless of the jobs, her family always came first.  She was a great cook with her specialties being beef stew and making pasta sauce from scratch (not Ragu).  Following her 17-year marriage to Bill Tharpe, she married Fred Sprankle, and they were together for almost 40 years.  By this time, she was an Office Manager for Penn Paints and had several grandchildren making her busier than ever spending quality time with them.  She will be missed by all who remember her well to include her predeceased friends Sandy Russell, Helen Sullivan, and Patricia Ransbottom.  She is predeceased by her husband, Fred L. Sprankle, mother, Louis Hoffman (Quick), two sisters, Delores Treece (Goodwin), Patricia Goodwin, one brother, Joseph Schmidt, and one step-daughter, Colleen Sprankle  She is survived by her sisters Anne Haehnle and Mamie Baucom of SC, sons, Andy Treland (Jungsoo) of Lake May, FL, Chris Treland (Betty) of Deland, FL, stepson Barry Sprankle (Karen) of Lake Helen, FL, son Jerry Tharpe of Seattle, WA, daughter Suzan (Tharpe) Tranzygier (Mike) of Altamonte Springs, FL, step-son Billy Tharpe of Englewood, FL and step daughters Jomy of Charlotte, NC and Dolly of Monroe, NC.  She had ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
