IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER

Total Trihalomethanes (TTHM)

Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) Violation

For Chase Groves Consecutive Water System PWS # 3594214

Our Environmental Services department water operations routinely monitors for the presence of drinking water contaminants as required by the Florida Department of Protection.  One of Environmental Services Consecutive Water System, Chase Groves Consecutive System that purchases drinking water from the City of Sanford recently violated a drinking water standard. Although this incident is not an emergency, as our customers, you have the right to know what happened and what we are doing to correct this situation

Total Trihalomethanes (TTHM) are a group of chemicals that are formed along with other disinfectant byproducts when chlorine or other disinfectants used to control microbial contaminants in drinking water react with naturally occurring organic and inorganic matter in water.  The state of Florida as well as many other states requires the use of disinfectants to minimize the possibility of bacterial contamination in the drinking water distribution system. The Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) set by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) for TTHM is 80 parts per billion (ppb).

The most recent testing result from July 2020 showed that this system exceeded the maximum contaminant level (MCL) for TTHM, a Disinfectant By-Product; four-quarter running annual average at one collection point in this system was 87.41 ppb.

What should I do?

At this time, no alternative source of water is necessary.  However, if you have any specific health concerns, consult your doctor.

What does this mean?

This is not an emergency. If it had been an emergency, you would have been notified within 24 hours.

*Some  people who drink water containing trihalomethanes in excess of the MCL over many years may experience problems with their liver, kidneys, or central nervous system, and may have an increased risk of getting cancer.*

What is being done?

Environmental Services Water Operations have increased hydrant flushing in the Chase Groves Consecutive System to move water to prevent naturally occurring organic and inorganic buildup of sediments in the distribution system. As required by FDEP, Seminole County Chase Groves Consecutive System will continue to monitor TTHM results.

For more information, please contact Seminole County Environmental Services Water Operations representative Greg Walton at 407-665-2795 or Elisa Williams at 407-665-2759.

Please share this information with other people who drink this water, especially those who many not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses).  You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand, mail, or e-mail.

This notice is being sent to you by Seminole County Environmental Services Water Department Public Water System ID# 3594214.
