Carl Schlike, 97, of Sanford, passed away February 9, 2017.
He was born March 17, 1919 in Jersey City, N.J. to the late Karl and Lydia Schlike. Carl served in the military as a counter-intelligence officer in the 1940s. He was married to Shirley Platt in 1944 in Millstone, N.J. Carl had a dual degree from Pace University in Law and Accounting, and worked as a banker, analyst, and in executive positions in two Window and Door companies prior to founding his company, Harcar Aluminum Products in 1957. The company began on a shoestring budget in an old fertilizer shed in Sanford, and grew to $18 million in revenue and over 300 employees. Carl retired in 1993, and spent his remaining years enjoying time with Shirley, the mountains of North Carolina, family (especially his grandchildren), and providing loving care for his 4 rescued cats.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley in 2013.
Survivors include three children, Richard (Susan), Winter Springs; Wendy (Larry) Pisto, Ivans, UT; Kristie (Vance) Brumbaugh, Bluefield, VA; five grandchildren, Jeff (Andrea) Brumbaugh, Sanford; Rick Brumbaugh, Sanford; Samantha, Michael and Steven Schilke; and two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Dylan Brumbaugh. Carl has one remaining brother, Eddie (Dottie) Schilke.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 18 at 11 a.m. at Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home with Phil Waisanen officiating.
