Big time youth baseball comes to Seminole County this week when Longwood’s Candyland Park plays host to the 2017 Babe Ruth Baseball/Cal Ripken League 11U Southeast Regional Tournament.

The AJGT Blue Harbor Point Stroke Play Championship in Mandeville, LA at Beau Chene Golf Club on July 22–23.
The tournament entry fee is $195 and includes two days of green fees, tee gifts, and Trophies in four age divisions.

In the game, Winter Park’s Cristian Rivera (No. 7, 2nd photo) of the South team was named the Game MVP after going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, while Sanford’s Elih Marrero (No. 11, 3rd photo) led the victorious North, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. During the pre-game Home Run Derby, Winter Garden’s Chase Smartt (No. 17, 4th photo) put on a show with 12 ‘dingers’ in the first round, but in the end, Altamonte Springs’ Garrett Zech (middle row, 5th photo, receiving his award from Florida League President Rob Seitz), who hit seven in the first round, won the title, 4-2 over Smartt in the Championship Round. Another sidelight of the game was Sanford’s own “Ralphie” the River Rat (6th photo) winning the Mascot Race.

SANFORD — The North All-Stars used a mid-game rally to take a 5-3 lead and held on for a 6-4 victory over the South All-Stars before a big crowd in the annual Florida League All-Star Game Saturday night at Historic Sanford Memorial Stadium.
