D'mont Rashard Simpkins-Jefferson Jr. passed away January 1, 2022 at Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford, FL.

After 54 years, the Li’L 500 go-kart track will close on Saturday, Jan. 8. Owners said they have already seen an increase in visitors, so they could get one last ride at the track.

Generations of go-kart riders were sad to hear that Li’L 500 on U.S. 17-92 in Fern Park will close permanently on Saturday, Jan. 8 at 7 p.m.

Sanford resident James Davis, who has served on Redistricting Committees in the past, addressed the current Committee Wednesday night in the City Hall Commission Chambers. He is standing before a map that city staff had drawn up of what six districts in Sanford might look like.

Redistricting Committee gives final district map for commission approval

The Redistricting Committee unanimously approved a resolution Wednesday night recommending that the Sanford City Commission form new districts using the Committee’s map and plan that keeps District 2 as close to a minority majority as possible.

Two 15-year-old boys face attempted homicide charges in connection with the shooting of an 18-year-old Deltona man Thursday night, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
