March 9 at 6:30 p.m., the Winter Springs City Commission held their biweekly regular meeting most notably discussing wastewater treatment plant repairs, annexation and development, storm sewer repairs, 5G cell towers and more.

The Commission pulled and discussed item 302 regarding the purchase of filter media and rehabilitation components for the East Wastewater Treatment Plant.

“The issue really comes down to what we call the final sand media filters and how it is with the final polishing of water,” said Scott Richards from Carolla Engineers. “Are there any micro solids still in the water.”

Afterwards, a consolidated public hearing was held for items 400, 401 and 402 regarding the voluntary annexation and rezoning of properties on Tuscola Road or a new development by Christopher Ryan Homes.

The Commission approved these items for the development of single family homes. Within the City Manager updates, the projects regarding Mimosa Court and Seafare Lane for storm sewer repairs were officially completed on Mar. 2nd.

The City Manager then reported a productive meeting with Verizon regarding small cell nodes.

They discussed aesthetics, such as pole color and confirmed that currently planned nodes represent the limit for the next few years.

“The demand for these 5G nodes is absolutely driven by the demand of its users, which are residents within the community,” said City Manager Jonathan Stokes.

The next Winter Springs City Commission meeting took place March 23.
