A recent shooting investigation that began in Winter Park led to a hot pursuit which ended in Lake Mary, according to the Winter Park Police Department.
The police initially responded to a call about two people being shot at a house on the intersection of Sylvan Boulevard and Overlook Road. When they arrived at the scene they found two men with gunshot wounds who were quickly transported for treatment by Winter Park Fire Rescue. Both victims are in stable conditions.
After a quick search the suspect’s vehicle was located in the area and the car sped off leading to a cross-county pursuit that ended at the intersection of Lake Mary Boulevard and Rinehart Road near Trailhead Park. A preliminary investigation indicated that the victims were shot because they confronted the two suspects as they were stealing tools from the construction site where the victims were working.
The suspects are identified as 37-year-old Frederick Leonzo Callaway and 28-year-old James Robinson. They have been charged with attempted felony murder, armed burglary of a structure, armed robbery, discharging a firearm from a vehicle within 1,000 feet of any person, aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, and discharging a firearm in public.
According to the Winter Park Police Department, they have no information on the involvement of any Lake Mary Police Officers. This follows with a quote from the Lake Mary Police Department who said because the pursuit originated with the Winter Park Police Department, they retained primary jurisdiction throughout the incident.
“Our role is to support as needed within our city limits, which may include monitoring the situation, assisting with traffic control, or responding to any immediate public safety concerns. However, the initiating agency remains responsible for the pursuit and any related investigation,” said Lake Mary Police Department.
