Seminole County teams continue to advance deeper into the Regionals and closer to a State Tournament appearance as the calendar reached the second week in May.
Girls Lacrosse saw the latest City of Oviedo Series decide a Final 4 appearance as Oviedo High School doubled up neighborhood rival Hagerty, 20-10, in the Class 2A-Region 2 final, and the Lions kept the momentum going with an 11-3 whipping of Plant in the Semifinals before falling to top-seeded Ponte Vedra, 13-7, in Saturday’s Championship Game in the FHSAA State Tournament at Paradise Coast Sports Complex in Naples.
In Boys Volleyball, Lake Brantley and Lake Howell won Class 3A-1Region 1 and Class 2A-Region 2, respectively, and will be playing in the FHSAA State Championships at the Winter Haven Health Center at Polk State College this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
A trio of Baseball teams _ Hagerty, Orangewood Christian and Winter Springs _ all won Best-of-3 Regional Finals over the weekend and earned trips to the State Final 4 in Ft. Myers.
Softball became the final sport to reach the Regionals and it was Lake Brantley outlasting the stormy weather to oust Atlantic Coast and advance to Thursday’s Regional Final. Meanwhile, The Geneva School, Hagerty and Winter Springs also posted Quarterfinal and Semifinal wins, and all four teams will play Regional Championship Games on Thursday.
Seminole High School in Girls Flag Football Lake Brantley in Girls Beach Volleyball saw their seasons come to an end.
