Shari Simmans Grant earns Certified Local Government Communicator (CLGC) Designation

The City of DeBary is proud to announce that Economic Development, Communications, and Government Affairs Director Shari Simmans Grant has earned the Certified Local Government Communicator (CLGC) designation, a respected professional credential recognizing excellence in public sector communications.  She is one of the first 30 professionals to earn the designation in the State of Florida through the Florida League of Cities’ Florida Municipal Communicators Association. 

The CLGC designation is awarded to communications professionals who demonstrate a high level of expertise in government communications, community engagement, and strategic messaging. The program emphasizes transparency, ethical practices, and the ability to effectively inform and connect with residents across multiple platforms.

“Clear, accurate, and timely communication is essential to building trust with our community,” said Mayor Karen Chasez. “Shari’s achievement reflects her dedication to professional excellence and her commitment to keeping our residents informed and engaged.”

Simmans Grant’s accomplishment highlights her ongoing commitment to strengthening communication efforts within the City of DeBary. Her work supports the City’s mission to provide responsive, transparent, and accessible information to residents, businesses, and stakeholders. She founded the City’s communication department, and a variety of programs including the City’s Citizens Academy.

The Certified Local Government Communicator program equips professionals with advanced skills in crisis communication, media relations, digital engagement, and public information strategies. ensuring communities are well-informed and connected.
