Growing Happiness at DeBary Health and Rehab

Growing Happiness at DeBary Health and Rehab

Contributed by City of DeBary

We recently had the chance to stop by DeBary Health and Rehabilitation Center after local Girl Scout Harmony’s mom reached out to share a really sweet project Harmony completed for the residents there, and we are so glad she did.

Some of you may remember Harmony from a few years back when we shared her bat house project here in DeBary. Now, as a 7th grader, she’s continuing to find thoughtful ways to give back to the community.

Harmony and her father built the raised garden bed you see in these photos, and with help from our local Ace Hardware, which donated soil, plants, and other supplies, the project quickly came to life. Residents even got to pick out which plants they wanted included before helping plant everything themselves.

When we visited, residents were out enjoying the sunshine, spending time together, and proudly showing off the garden they continue to care for each day. We even spotted a tiny baby tomato starting to pop up!

Moments like this are such a good reminder that community can look like something as simple as getting your hands a little dirty, sharing conversation outside, and growing something together.

Great work, Harmony! We loved getting to see your kindness in action.
